Second Semester of Senior Year
Second semester has started, and I cannot wait for AP tests to be finished and relax. After the climax of AP tests, all my classes will become significantly easier, allowing me to have more time to do my hobbies such as painting and reading. The capstone project is another hurdle I need to overcome and currently it is a difficult project. Due to our uncertainties of what direction we want our project to go in, I am afraid that we might switch later down on the road. Obstacles such as time management and refinement will be critical, learning from our mistakes from the JPL project.
Capstone Project:
The difference between products made for made for
profit and products that are made to benefit others is that products made to benefit others acknowledge certain flaws in their product, taking the time and effort to make the product help everyday life. Profit, on the other hand, tends to not acknowledge problems in their product, using certain psychological or manufacturing scams or tactics to benefit themselves. A good example of this is certain chargers that can easily be broken, or cheap headphones.
--Profit--
pro- An easy way to gain money, allowing the person to potentially invest in new ways in improving their product and convey a message they wish to announce. This is true to certain green products, such as Tesla and their electric cars. Conveying the message to help the earth and not use gas.
con- to the consumer, the cost might out-weighs the benefit where the device might be either cheap and poor quality or expensive and mediocre quality. An example of this would be cheap headphones that allow the person to sell vast amounts but the device breaks easily
--Benefit--
pro- Creates a very thought-out product that solves the problem in every aspect, allowing it to fully do its intended job with little drawbacks. An example of a product like this would be satellites or majority of space machinery, where they prioritize function and discovery over profit.
con- Might be extremely expensive and time consuming. Products like these may take years or decades of planning just to make sure it fully solves the issue. To insure the success of the product, many weeks may be spent testing and getting data instead of mass producing. Products such as solar panels and wind turbines took many months and years to create, just to ensure a new and more environmental friendly energy source.
